Welcome
This is the website of Bodo Winter. I am a graduate student at the University of California, Merced, where I study cognitive science, the interdisciplinary study of the human mind. My academic advisor is Teenie Matlock.
Research interests
I have two research tracks. First, I work within the field of experimental cognitive linguistics and study the mental images that people generate when using language, as well as how we use metaphors in language and figurative thought.

My second track involves phonetics, where I do both articulatory and acoustic studies of speech production in a variety of languages (German, Korean, Yoruba, Even).

Often, both of these research tracks meet one of my favorite topics: language evolution. When I'm not working on any of these, I am writing statistics tutorials, or I'm performing numerical simulations to test the validity of various statistical approaches that are used in language research.
