I study linguistics, phonetics and philosophy at the University of Cologne and at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. I work on mental simulation in language understanding and social and biological aspects of speech production. Current projects involve the mental simulation of grammatical aspect and conditional sentences, interference during language understanding through motor simulation, and acoustic correlates of polite speech in Korean, German and Russian.
I am currently situated in Leipzig where I work at the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Department of Linguistics.
I collaborate with Sven Grawunder (MPI Eva), Katie Drager (UH Manoa), James Grama (UH Manoa), Heeyeon Dennison (UH Manoa), Joelle Kirtley (UH Manoa), Benjamin Bergen (UCSD), Stephanie Huette (UC Merced), Teenie Matlock (UC Merced) and Michael Spivey (UC Merced).
